A months-long human trafficking operation led by Parkland RCMP has resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals in the Stony Plain area. Each has been charged with obtaining sexual services for consideration.
The arrests stem from a targeted investigation into trafficking-related exploitation. Police say the individuals were apprehended during a focused operation designed to disrupt the commercial sex trade and protect vulnerable individuals, particularly women and girls.
While the names of the accused have not been released—pending the formal swearing of charges—all were issued Appearance Notices and are expected to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain on future dates.
Inspector Kevin McGillivray, Detachment Commander for Parkland RCMP, underscored the seriousness of the crime and its impact.
“Human trafficking is a heinous crime that predominately impacts young women and girls who are compelled or forced to engage in for-profit sex acts,” McGillivray said. “The arrests made during this operation highlight the fact that there are those who would seek to exploit and benefit from trafficked individuals. The Parkland RCMP is committed to investigating those who would harm our most vulnerable citizens.”
This operation is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to dismantle human trafficking networks and hold perpetrators accountable. Police say more investigations are ongoing and are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity related to trafficking or exploitation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Parkland RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
