RCMP Warn of Speeding Ticket Text Scam in Strathcona County

Strathcona County RCMP are warning residents about a scam involving fake speeding ticket texts.

Police say they’ve received reports of text messages claiming the recipient has an unpaid radar ticket. The message includes a link to a website requesting payment. Authorities stress the message is fraudulent and warn people not to click the link or send money.

“Government and police agencies do not issue tickets by text,” the RCMP said. “If you receive a suspicious message, don’t reply and don’t click any links.”

Anyone unsure about a message’s legitimacy is encouraged to contact the organization directly using verified contact information.

Victims of identity theft should also contact Canada’s credit bureaus, Equifax and TransUnion, to protect their financial accounts.
