Fort Sask. Hosts 40th Anniversary + Canada Day Celebrations

The dual festivities in Fort Saskatchewan this Canada Day will be running from sunrise to sunset, as not only do we celebrate 158 years of an independent Canada, but also Fort Saskatchewan’s 40th anniversary of being established as a city.

Starting the day off will be a free Pancake Breakfast sponsored by Dow taking place at the Fort Saskatchewan Legion Parking lot. The breakfast will be cooked by the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department, with opportunities to donate to the Fire Department’s boot drive, going to support the Muscular Dystrophy Society. Indoor seating is available inside the Legion’s community hall.

The Canada Day parade will be starting at 11 a.m. and is running through downtown Fort Saskatchewan. Visit this map to view the route of the parade and find your spot along it.

Follow it up with the Canada Day Festival in Legacy Park, with the opening ceremony at 1 p.m.. All activities are free except for the food and drink. The event features activities focused on children like face painting, but there’s also plenty for adults to do as well, such as caricature artists and colouring on the 20-foot community mural.

The festival will also feature a mobile ninja warrior obstacle course, spanning over 150 feet.

There will also be live entertainment from 1 to 3:30 p.m..

The evening stage lineup features some heavy Canadian hitters, starting the night off with Alberta’s own Travis Dolter, an up and coming country artist. Then Ria Mae will be taking the stage, a pop singer-songwriter with a Juno nomination to her name.

Finally, The Washboard Union will be performing, a multiple-time award-winning trio known for their high-energy country songs.

To close off the evening, the firework show will be held near the Rotary Amphitheatre in Peter R. Ream Park, with a start time of 10:45. The city will be putting on a larger than usual show to celebrate the occasion.

Public transit will be free during the day and will run throughout the entire day. The city encourages residents to use the public transit to get around on Canada Day, especially when going to festivities as parking is limited. The busses will be running every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to midnight.

Find additional information on the festivities and check the shuttle maps on this brochure put out by the city.
