The Government of Alberta is adjusting regulations around the sale of alcohol and cannabis to help local producers.
Local alcohol producers now have a green light to serve their own alcoholic beverages on party bikes. This restriction removal allows local producers to advertise their own brands.
Businesses that own or lease large buildings are now also permitted to set up a liquor store within the space, as long as the area has its own entrance and full floor-to-ceiling walls that separate it from other operations.
In addition to these alcohol restriction adjustments within the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation (GLCR), federally licensed cannabis cultivators and processors will now be able to apply for a retail license to sell products directly from the same property it’s grown on, known as “farm-gate” sales.
“We are proud that these amendments not only cut red tape in the retail segment of the liquor marketplace, but also directly open more opportunities for small manufacturers to grow their businesses,” said Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction.
Licensed cannabis producers are regulated by Health Canada, not on a provincial level.
