St. Albert is asking its residents to sign up to the permanent electors register before August 15 in order to vote in the upcoming October municipal election.
This register is new for this election cycle, with its implementation being required under the province’s Bill 20, requiring voters to be listed in an election’s register.
The federal government already has a national voter’s register, which is similar to the new municipal registers.
The new live strike off system will allow voters to have their voice heard from any voting station in the city.
Five voting stations will be available on election day, being located at the St. Albert Alliance Church, Red Willow Place, the Kinsmen Club of St. Albert, St. Albert Inn and Servus Place.
Residents who wish to register can go to voterlink.ab.ca to add themselves to the register. The deadline is August 15.
Voters who miss the deadline can bring the required pieces of ID and will be added at the station on election day.
St. Albert’s next election will be held on Monday, October 20. To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, over the age of 18 and a resident of St. Albert.
The election will select the mayor, councillors, and public and catholic school board trustees.
