Lamont County has opened its intake for the fall session of dust control.
Sign up must be completed by July 31 to be included in any dust abatement program.
All costs for the service are the responsibility of the landowner. Applying a dust suppressant can reduce the impact of dust created by traffic on gravel roads.
The county offers a few different options for dust suppression. Calcium Chloride starts at $700, at a minimum distance of 122 metres, with an additional $175 charge for 30 metre increments. The calcium chloride is blended in with the surface gravel and combines with water so suppress dust. There is no guarantee as to the level or lifespan of dust suppression. It also contains a rust inhibitor to reduce impacts on vehicles.
Lamont County is also offering a mineral oil at a minimum of $800 and a minimum of 122 metres with $200 for each additional 30 metres. It repels water off of the road surface as it does not combine with water. The oil is applied as a thin film and takes 24 hours to settle, during which the road is drivable.
The final option is an SC 250 Oil, with a $9,000 minimum and 122 metre minimum, with an additional charge of $2,250 for every 30 metre increment. The cold-mix product is placed on top of the existing road surface and repels water from the road.
