Strathcona County RCMP and Enforcement Services are happy to announce the newest member of their team, a 21-month-old golden Labrador named Mickey.
The puppy is tasked with providing emotional support and comfort to police officers, peace officers, dispatch, administration staff and victim services.
Mickey is an accredited facility dog with the Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society (DWW).
“This initiative reflects the kind of thoughtful, people-first policing that makes our community stronger,” says Tom Sutton, Director of Strathcona County RCMP and Enforcement Services. “Whether offering comfort to a child in crisis or simply brightening someone’s day, DWW Mickey will be a source of comfort and connection for the officers, the support staff and the community we serve.”
Mickey is the first facility dog to join the Strathcona County RCMP team at 911 Bison Way.
“Mickey’s happy-go-lucky nature, eagerness to engage and natural intuition make him the perfect fit for this role,” stated Dogs with Wings CEO Amada Dubé. “Whether someone needs a quiet moment of connection or a reason to smile, Mickey has an incredible ability to show up just when he’s needed most.”
Mickey also has his own Instagram account where residents can keep up to date on the happenings of the pup. The account handle is @dww_mickey.
