Edmonton Transit Services (ETS) is looking for 30-35 transit users willing to test a new Tap to Pay system with debit or credit cards.
The new system would offer an alternative for users who do not want to use an ARC card, a system that allows transit riders to pre-load funds onto a card which is then tapped when entering and exiting an ETS or related transit service vehicle.
The testing will allow ETS to ensure that the system works smoothly and is able to be rolled out for all users.
A Tap to Pay system is already implemented in many other cities across Canada, including Toronto and Vancouver, making occasional transit users experiences simpler as it’s one less card to carry in a wallet.
ETS has agreements with many other transit services in the Edmonton area, including Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan, St. Albert, Spruce Grove and Leduc.
ETS is looking for a diverse group of testers, with interested individuals being able to take the recruitment survey on the City of Edmonton’s website.
