Alberta RCMP have reminded vehicle owners of the importance of keeping their vehicles safe during the warm summer months.
Whether at a campsite, a trailhead or simply stopping to get a frozen drink, it’s vital to keep your vehicle safe.
The first reminder is to always lock your vehicle. Even a brief moment of inattention can be enough for a thief to steal items from within a vehicle.
Never leave an unattended vehicle running. Opportunistic thieves can strike anywhere, and even just a quick stop can be enough invitation for a robbery.
Keep your keys and other valuable items safe. Garage door openers and important documents should be taken into a household when you arrive back home.
Close the windows of vehicles before leaving them out of eyesight, even on a hot day. The RCMP also would like to remind those with trailers to use a hitch lock when not in use to prevent towing theft.
Don’t let theft get in the way of your activities this summer. Practice auto-theft safety to help prevent becoming a victim.
