EPS determine playground fire was likely arson

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have determined that a suspicious fire that took place at a playground last week was likely arson and are continuing to seek the public’s support in the investigation. On Saturday, July 12 at around 8 a.m., EPS and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) responded to a fire in the area of 122 Avenue and 128 Street where a playground adjacent to the St. Pius X Catholic Elementary School was on fire.

The playground was severely damaged and will be closed until repairs or replacement can be made.

As the investigation has continued, EPS and EFRS have determined that the blaze was likely caused by an arsonist.

Anyone with dash cam or security camera footage from the area between 7 a.m. too 8:20 a.m. on July 12 is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
