Parkland RCMP go on arrest spree in Spruce Grove

Parkland RCMP, in partnership with the Alberta RCMP Community Response Team, have gone on another arrest spree to combat prolific offenders in the community.

Earlier this year, six search warrants were executed in relation to property crime offenders in Parkland County. As a result of the investigation and subsequent search warrant executions, RCMP were able to seize five stolen trailers, two stolen lawnmowers, a stolen quad, skidsteer and travel trailer, stolen licence plates and identification documents and a sawed-off shotgun.

As a result, three individuals were arrested and released on conditions. All three are scheduled to appear in court in Stoney Plain on July 30.

On June 21, RCMP arrested a prolific offender after he was found driving a stolen Subaru Forrester. RCMP ground officers and EPS Air1 surveillance followed the vehicle as it made its way to Spruce Grove and drove on walking trails to evade arrest.

Police arrested the 41-year-old Stony Plain resident after he entered a Spruce Grove garage. The individual has been charged with offences including possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, failure to follow release conditions and more.

On June 25, the Alberta Community Response Team arrested a 52-year-old woman during a traffic stop in relation to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. Police located and seized items including a package containing drugs disguised as a birthday present after a search warrant was executed.

In total, police seized almost 50 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 200 millilitres of GHB, a common date rape drug.

“Provincially, the Alberta RCMP has seen a 15.2% reduction in property crimes in rural areas compared to the same time last year.” Says Inspector Kevin McGillivary,” That equates to over 1000 less cases of people waking up in the morning to their vehicles missing, their garages broken into, worksites and copper wire stolen, ATMs ripped out of stores and various other crimes. “

The city of Spruce Grove is seeing a 42 per cent decrease in theft of motor vehicle and break and enter cases when compared to the same timeframe last year.

Stoney Plain has also seen a drop, with a 38 per cent decrease in break and enters and an 18 per cent drop in theft of motor vehicles. As a whole, Parkland County has seen a 26 per cent decrease in break and enters and a 27 per cent decrease in theft of motor vehicle cases.
