Strathcona County has announced that they will be the hosts of the 25th Alberta Summer Games, taking place from July 16-19, 2026.
Preparations are well underway as the event sits at one year out.
The planning is being supported by a Board of Directors comprised of community volunteers and Youth Ambassadors selected from local athletes who have competed in past games.
“This event means so much to the thousands of athletes who will be here, giving their best efforts to represent their community and their sport,” says John Dance, Board Chair of the Strathcona County 2026 Alberta Summer Games Society. “Our board and staff team are working hard to ensure that the 2026 Alberta Summer Games will be an unforgettable experience for athletes, spectators, volunteers and the entire community.”
The Games include many different sporting events, including some that aren’t as common in the area. Some of the standard events include baseball, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse, but the event also takes a shot at mountain biking, taking place at West River’s Edge in Fort Saskatchewan, and rugby.
The event is expected to provide an economic boost to the county and some surrounding areas, with a couple events taking place outside of the county. As previously mentioned, mountain biking will be taking place in Fort Saskatchewan, with the Canoe/Kayak event happening at Rundle Park in Edmonton.
