EPS investigate 20th fatal collision of the year with solo motorcycle accident

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) are investigating the 20th fatal collision that has taken place within the city so far this year after a motorcycle was involved in a high-speed, solo accident.

EPS responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle in the area of Highway 2 and Highway 19 during the evening of July 15.

It was reported that a motorcycle and a car were travelling through an industrial park. Police were told that the motorcycle was going quite quickly before it collided with a concrete barrier. Edmonton Medical Services responded and pronounced the 40-year-old motorcycle river deceased at the scene.

The driver of the car was not involved in the accident and was not injured.

“The unfortunate reality is that 20 individuals have died on our streets this year alone,” says Interim Chief Devin Laforce. “These are our friends, our family, our coworkers. The EPS is focusing significant resources on traffic safety measures, including education campaigns, to remind Edmontonians that speeding on our roadways is not without immense risk and potentially tragic outcomes. Our sincere condolences go out to this man’s friends and family during this difficult time.”

The Major Collision Investigation Section of the EPS is heading up the investigation.
