Stingers win 7 in a row, tie for 3rd longest win streak in CEBL history

The Edmonton Stingers have taken an 87-85 victory against the Ottawa Blackjacks, tying for the third longest win streak in Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) history.

This two point victory margin is the closest that the team has won by since they started their hot streak in mid-June in a game against Calgary.

The tick in the win column pushes Edmonton to a 7-game win streak, tying the third highest in league history. The record sits at 9 wins in a row, that accomplishment also belonging to Edmonton in the league’s inaugural season in 2017.

MVP-candidate Sean East II had 23 points in 28 minutes, pairing it with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Keon Ambrose-Hylton also had a standout game with 23 points and 10 boards.

Edmonton was able to have a slightly better shooting performance, going 9/28 from beyond the three-point line, finishing the game with a 32 per cent three-point chance. That’s 15 percentage points higher than their previous game in Scarborough, where the team shot an embarrassing 17 per cent.

Ottawa shot a higher efficiency throughout the game, shooting 45 per cent on 79 shots compared to Edmonton’s 42 per cent on 69 attempts from the field. However, Edmonton took far more trips to the free throw line, making 20 of their 31 attempts, while the Blackjacks had to settle for just 6 attempts throughout the night.

Ottawa was led by Isaih Moore, who had 28 points and 15 rebounds.

Standings wise, Edmonton still sits two games back from conference leaders Vancouver and one game back from Alberta rivals Calgary, with Calgary securing a playoff finish in last night’s win over the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

If the 5th seeded Saskatchewan Rattlers loose to Vancouver tonight, Edmonton has secured its spot in the 2025 post-season.

Any of the top three teams (Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton) could take the top spot for the western conference.

Edmonton is next headed to Vancouver to take on the Bandits on Sunday in their attempt to bump that win streak up to tie the second highest ever in CEBL history at 8 wins. The road trip then comes to a close in Winnipeg on Friday. July 25.
