Edmonton resident sentenced and fined for a gun smuggling operation

31-year-old Edmonton resident Harsimran Dhaliwal has been sentenced to 82 months in prison and fined $30,000 for illegally buying handguns to smuggle into Canada. He has been linked to running a gun smuggling operation, distributing firearms from the U.S. to Canadian criminals. Dhaliwal reportedly travelled between Edmonton and Texas for his operation and in 2022 he used straw buyers in Texas to get hold of firearms which have been linked to crimes in Canada. He was arrested in Texas on Sept. 22, 2023.

Dhaliwal was identified after a search warrant on Nov. 2, 2022 uncovered eight handguns and more than $930,000 in drugs and cash at his home as well as a different home in Edmonton. Two other men were arrested during the investigation, 53-year-old Adam Sarah Johma and a 34-year-old whose identity is remaining unknown to protect a child living at the residence.

Dhaliwal is believed to have brought hundreds of firearms to Canadian streets. He has now officially been sentenced to 82 months in prison and has been fined $30,000.
