Alberta Reduces Personal Income Tax, Putting More Money Back in Your Pocket

Premier Danielle Smith’s government has delivered on its promise to ease the financial burden on hard-working Albertans, announcing a significant tax cut that will benefit millions across the province. Alberta’s personal income tax rate on earnings up to $60,000 will be reduced from 10% to 8%, signalling Alberta’s most substantial income tax relief in recent years.

This move means individual taxpayers will save up to $750 annually, while two-income families could pocket as much as $1,500. Most Albertans will start seeing higher take-home pay starting July 1, when payroll withholdings are adjusted.

“You work hard for your money and you deserve to keep more of it,” Premier Smith posted on X. “That’s why Alberta is cutting personal income taxes—putting more cash back into the pockets of Albertans.”

The tax relief is part of a broader economic strategy aimed at attracting businesses, creating jobs, and keeping Alberta competitive. Unlike the tax-and-spend approach of Ottawa, Alberta’s approach empowers individuals and families by letting them keep more of what they earn.

Critics from the opposition NDP argue the tax cut primarily benefits higher earners, but fiscal conservatives point out that tax relief across all brackets incentivizes work, investment, and economic growth.

With Alberta already boasting the lowest tax burden in the country, this latest cut further solidifies the province as Canada’s economic powerhouse. Lower taxes, stronger growth, and more prosperity—Alberta is once again leading the way.
