A routine tip turned into a major property crime bust this week, as Morinville RCMP—alongside Fort Saskatchewan RCMP—executed a search warrant on a Sturgeon County property, recovering a stolen Cadillac Escalade and other stolen goods.
On April 9, RCMP received a report of a known repeat offender, identified as Wesley Darrell Kirby, 29, driving while under suspension. Officers observed Kirby behind the wheel of what they suspected to be a stolen vehicle. He was later seen operating a motorcycle and was arrested without incident.
A subsequent search warrant executed on a rural property yielded the recovery of the Escalade, various break-in tools, and construction equipment—including piping—linked to a commercial break-and-enter from April 8.
Kirby, a Sturgeon County resident, faces a slate of charges, including:
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $500
• Two counts of failing to comply with a release order
• Multiple offences under the Traffic Safety Act
In addition to these charges, RCMP also executed an outstanding warrant from Leduc County relating to property crimes and fleeing police.
Kirby was brought before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 14, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert.
RCMP continue to investigate whether further stolen property may be connected to the case.
