Bushfire in west Edmonton closes Henday

Businesses were evacuated and parts of the Anthony Henday were shut down Tuesday due to a wildfire in West Edmonton.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services stated it received reports of a brush/grass fire near 186 Street and 104 Avenue at 12:30 p.m..

The fire rapidly spread north towards 111 Avenue. Crews arrived on Scene at 12:35 to battle the flames.

The thick smoke and high winds shut down the Anthony Henday Drive in both directions at Stony Plain Road, as well as 111 Avenue being closed from 184 Street to the Anthony Henday Drive.

111 Avenue was shut down throughout Tuesday night and was reopened around noon on Wednesday.
