Fort Saskatchewan is continuing its partnership with the Lifesaving Society to return the Lifejacket Loaner station outside of Harbour Pool.
The station will give free access to lifejackets in all sizes, including infant, toddler, and adult. It’s open from May 16 through September 4.
The jackets are cleaned and inspected after each use, and the station runs on a sign-out/sign-in system to keep track of all the life-saving devices.
The Lifejacket Loaner station is open during Harbour Pool’s normal reception hours.
According to the Lifesaving Society, Alberta averages 30 drowning deaths per year, alongside 120 non-fatal drownings.
“We want everyone to enjoy our river valley and surrounding lakes, but to do so safely,” said Mayor Gale Katchur. “By removing barriers to lifejackets, this program plays an important role in preventing tragedy and promoting water safety in our community.”
