St. Albert RCMP warn of paving scam

St. Albert RCMP are alerting residents of a new scam involving door-to-door salesmen advertising road paving services.

The resident is asked to pay for the service up-front, and is often left with a sub-standard job, or no work done at all.

The companies use different names and say that they are based out of town. Vehicles are often not marked with any company branding; however, some are. Those that are are using magnetic branding which can be swapped out for different companies.

The “contractors” often say that they have left over asphalt from a previous job. This is typically cold, recycled asphalt or an oil and gravel mixture.

St. Albert RCMP reminds residents to do their due diligence before hiring contractors, including getting a written quote with a full business name and address, and getting quotes from multiple different companies.

If you or someone you know have fallen victim to this scam or recently encounter any individuals posing as paving contractors in St. Albert and are concerned that it is suspicious, you are encourage to contact the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700.
