7-Eleven has faced a ruling from British Columbia’s Supreme Court ordering them to pay close to a million dollars to Crystal Tommy, a woman who had tripped on a pothole and broke her ankle in 2018, leading to years of health issues.
The Court had found the company liable for her injuries and all of the consequences arising from those injuries.
Tommy had slipped around Christmas time of 2018 while leaving her mother’s house, hitting her back on the corner of the porch. She claimed that this was because she was still limping from the broken ankle she suffered from the 7-Eleven fall.
She was then in a car accident in 2021, in which she suffered a hernia due to weight gain from her being immobile during the recovery period.
Tommy is expected to make a recovery from her surgeries in spring of 2026.
In total, Crystal Tommy was awarded $494,000 for future loss of income, $175,000 for pain and suffering, $171,863 for future loss of housekeeping and $39,000 for past housekeeping, totaling to $907,000.
