St. Albert Public Schools teachers to vote on strike

St. Albert Public Schools teachers will be voting on whether or not they wish to strike. The vote is currently ongoing and will end over the weekend.

If the vote passes, the union will have 120 days to initiate a strike, meaning that they could walk off the job during the summer break, or at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.

St. Albert Public Schools said that they hope that issues can be resolved without the need of a strike.

The Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) point class sizes and funding as key issues to be solved.

“Teachers are standing united in demanding respect and recognition for the challenges they experience in today’s classrooms,” said ATA President Jason Schilling. “Settling for anything less than tangible solutions will not be tolerated.”

The school year for St. Albert Public Schools ends on June 25, with the Great St. Albert Catholic School division wrapping up classes on June 26.
