Strathcona County RCMP remind cyclists to be proactive

With the warm weather of the summer now firmly set in Alberta, Strathcona County RCMP wants to remind cyclists in the county to be proactive when it comes to ensuring their safety on the roads and sidewalks this summer.

Cyclists under the age of 18 are required by law to wear a helmet, and adults are strongly encouraged to do so as well.

Bicycles must be equipped with a horn or a bell, at least one brake, and a white headlight, red taillight and read red reflector if used at night.

Strathcona County RCMP encourage riders to stay on bike trails when possible and to secure bicycles with high quality locks when leaving them unattended.

Take your valuables with you when leaving your bike, and keep records of the bikes make, model, serial number and any other unique features to assist with recovery if the bicycle is stolen.
