Three former St. Albert Minor Football players have earned spots on Team Alberta for the Under-16 National Championships in Winnipeg this July. Mason Funk, Travis Heal, and Micah Lorenzin were selected after a highly competitive evaluation process involving athletes from across the province.
Funk will play on the offensive line, while Heal and Lorenzin—both Morinville residents—will suit up at wide receiver and running back, respectively. All three are future Sturgeon Spirits and will begin their high school football seasons at Sturgeon Composite this fall.
The national tournament, running during the first week of July, features top players from across Canada. The trio is looking to help Alberta contend for gold before turning their focus to the upcoming high school season.
Their selection highlights the strength of local football development programs and marks a proud moment for the St. Albert and Morinville football communities.
