Police have confirmed that the death of a woman in Edmonton’s Chappelle neighbourhood earlier this week was a homicide.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy Thursday on Ramona Bowen, 45, determining she died from sharp force trauma. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Bowen was found in medical distress inside a residence near Charles Bay and Charles Way around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23. Edmonton police and paramedics responded to a call reporting an injured woman. Despite emergency life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the autopsy, police charged Matthew Harper, 41, with second-degree murder. Investigators confirmed that Harper was known to the victim.
The case is being handled by the Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section. No further details about the nature of the relationship or the circumstances leading up to the incident have been released at this time.
