On December 15, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of a residential house fire near 53 Avenue and 45 Street in Wetaskiwin. When police arrived to the scene, a deceased male was found inside. The male was identified as 67-year-old Donald Robert and the circumstances around the death were deemed suspicious.
Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation. After the investigation, two youth, one male and one female, were arrested on July 9.
Each youth has been charged with manslaughter and arson – disregard for human life.
As both of the arrested individuals are under the age of 18, their identities cannot be released. Both youths appeared in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on July 10.
