On July 12, Redwater RCMP noticed a car driving at a high rate of speed while on control. The vehicle was driving through a construction zone on Highway 28 in Thorhild County.
RCMP used their radar and determined that the vehicle was traveling at 145 km/h in a zone with a speed limit of 80 km/h.
RCMP initated a traffic stop, finding that it was a 17-year-old male behind the wheel of the vehicle. A ticket for exceeding maximum highway speed in a construction zone was issued.
“We want to take a moment to remind the public of the dangers of driving at a high rate of speed, especially in construction zones” said Cpl. Dillon Vahey of the Redwater RCMP. “Though no workers were present this time, the story could have been much different had workers been on site and at risk”.
The youth will be summoned to the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan on August 14.
