The City of Edmonton has announced that some mail has recently been stolen from a city facility and that the information of some residents may have been leaked in the burglary.
The beak in and theft occurred on the weekend of June 28 and is being investigated by the Edmonton Police Service.
The theft was discovered on the 30th and it is estimated that up to 200 pieces of mail were stolen, along with some other items. This mail would have been dropped off at a city facility or sent locally to the city via Canada Post between June 24 and 27. Stolen mail may include details such as names, addresses, contact info, family details and financial information.
The city of Edmonton is focusing on supporting those who may be impacted. Those who sent mail to the city between June 24 and 27 are asked to contact the city to confirm receipt of their mail. Visit the City of Edmonton’s website to confirm the contact. Alternatively, emailing mailservicebreach@edmonton.ca or calling 311 will get you directed to the correct contact.
The City has relocated all mail storage at the facility to a separate, secure location.
