The Edmonton Stingers win streak has come to an end at 7 wins in a row as the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) team takes their first loss since halfway through July.
Edmonton quite simply got out-played by the Vancouver Bandits, who currently sit atop the Western Conference standings.
The Bandits scored 48 per cent of their 35 three-point attempts, whereas Edmonton only managed to sink 8 of their 35 attempts from beyond the arc. Edmonton also didn’t fare as well as Vancouver did, only making 53 per cent of their two-point plays compared to the Bandits’ 67 per cent.
Edmonton lost the game 111-99, with Sean East leading the team in points with 20, followed closely by Scottie Lindsey and Nick Hornsby sitting at 19 points each. Keon Ambrose-Hylton pulled down a monstrous 18 rebounds during the course of the game.
Vancouver was led in points by Duane Notice, who scored 23. Corey Davis Jr. cracked 20 points, with Mitch Creek rounding out their top 3 with 19.
Despite the loss, Edmonton has secured itself a spot in the playoffs with a loss from the Saskatchewan Rattlers on July 18 in Vancouver.
Edmonton looks pretty secure in taking the third slot in the more competitive Western conference, sitting 1.5 games back from second place Calgary Surge and 3.5 games back from leading Vancouver Bandits.
Winnipeg is 3.5 games back from Edmonton with a 7-10 record. The Niagra River Lions are currently leading the East with a 12-5 record, the only team with a positive record in the East. The second place Scarborough Shooting Stars are sitting at 8-9.
