City of Edmonton launches new grant to support LGBTQ+ spaces

The City of Edmonton has announced the launch of a new grant, named the Beyond Belonging grant, to support community-led initiatives to create safer, inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ residents.

The new program reflects the city’s goal of advancing equity and addressing and breaking down systematic barriers.

A total of $750,000 will be awarded through one-time grants, with projects receiving between $10,000 and $100,000. All funded projects must be completed within one year of receiving approval.

Successful applicants would be aligned with the priorities of creating safe, inclusive spaces and events for LGBTQ+ communities, deliver education that promotes inclusion, and strengthen efforts to address hate and discrimination.

Project outcomes could include helping LGBTQ+ Edmontonians feel safer and included, improving access to safe, affirming and responsive services and reducing the amount of hate faced by minorities in the LGBTQ+ umbrella.

The applications are open now, with the deadline being end of day on September 10. Notifications will be sent to successful applicants during November of this year.

Two virtual information sessions will be held, one on July 25 and one on August 7. Each session includes a Q&A.

More details and the application grant guide can be found on the city of Edmonton’s website.
