Whitecourt RCMP make arrests over alleged property crime

Whitecourt RCMP are currently conducting investigations related to property crime in partnership with Edson RCMP and Mayerthorpe RCMP.

On July 15, several break and enters were reported throughout rural areas of Whitecourt, Mayerthorpe and Edson. The suspects were able to be identified thanks to witnesses and video surveillance.

One suspect was arrested while driving a stolen vehicle in Whitecourt on July 17, whereas the other was arrested by Whitecourt RCMP on July 19.

As a result of the investigation, 43-year-old Whitecourt resident David Masyk was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of break-in tools and failure to comply with release orders.

35-year-old Whitecourt resident Dustin Curtis was also arrested and charged with four counts of break and enter, theft of motor vehicle, two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000 – trafficking and failure to provide breath sample.

“We understand that property crime is a big concern within the community” said S/Sgt Matthew Clarke of the Whitecourt RCMP. “We will keep working towards protecting your hard-earned goods from those who would seek to take them from you”.
