Edmonton man arrested in Saskatchewan for gun and drug charges

An investigation by the St. Albert RCMP Drug Unit led to the arrest of an Edmonton man in Saskatchewan.

Back in the spring, the RCMP began an investigation into 27-year-old Ryan Kovacs, a former St. Albert resident who now lives in Edmonton.

Throughout the investigation, police determined that many of his alleged drug offences took place in St. Albert. Because of this, an arrest warrant was issued for Kovacs for the following charges:

  • Trafficking Cocaine (x4)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime (x3)

On October 19, police executed a search warrant at Kovas’ home and vehicle, where they found:

  • SKS Rifle (loaded and insecure)
  • 12 Gauge Shotgun (insecure)
  • .410 sawed-off shotgun with defaced serial number (insecure and round in the ammunition chamber)
  • Altered Prohibited SKS Magazines (x2)
  • Collapsible Baton
  • Assisted Switchblade Knife
  • 151.26 grams believed to be Cocaine
  • 43.59 grams believed to be MDMA
  • 143 Tablets believed to be Oxycodone
  • Packaging
  • Scale
  • Money Counter

As a result of this search, Kovacs received several more charges, including:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (x3)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (x3)
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to a Prohibition Order (x4)
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (x5)
  • Tampering with a Serial Number
  • Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device (x4)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance

Kovacs was located and arrested in Saskatchewan where he was remanded in custody and brought back to Alberta. He’ll be facing court on November 6.
