The Fort Saskatchewan Pottery Guild raised thousands for the Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank at their empty bowls event last week.
The event went alongside the August 31 farmers market, held in the CN Station parking lot.
The guild was selling specialty bowls for $10 each, with every dollar and spare bowl going back towards the food bank.
Laura Gibos, president of the pottery guild, said that there was a huge turnout to the event.
“We actually forgot our banner, which didn’t help people find us at the market,” said Gibos. “There was people waiting there at 3:30. We had people with their bowls picked out. It was amazing.”
“It was just a really solid turnout. Fort Saskatchewan really steps up for this event every year.”
In total, they had five bowls left over, selling just over 270 bowls, which lead to $2,700 being donated to the food bank.
“It’s just amazing what the Fort can do when a need arises. They’re just an amazing community, and I applaud them.”
The guild will be hosting a cheque presentation for the food bank in the near future.
