This weekend marks one of the most solemn days in Canadian history – Remembrance Day.
November 11 was the day the First World War ended, and for the last 104 years Canada uses this day to honour the armed forces member who have fought and died in the line of duty.
Here’s every Remembrance Day event going on in the area:
Fort Saskatchewan
The Fort Saskatchewan Legion is hosting their ceremony at the cenotaph outside of the Legion at 10:45 a.m., which is followed by an indoor ceremony and open house.
Strathcona County
Starting at 10:30 a.m., Sherwood Park is hosting a ceremony at Millenium Place. This event is hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion.
Sturgeon County
In Morinville, their legion begins their ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
The Gibbons Legion will be hosting a ceremony from 10 a.m. until noon.
The Redwater Legion will also have a ceremony going on, which begins at 10:45 a.m.
Facilities all across the county will also have their flags at half mast to honour veterans.
Lamont County
In Bruderheim, their ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the Bruderheim Memorial Community Centre.
While in Lamont itself, they’ll start their ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Lamont Recreation Centre Hall.
Edmonton
Alberta’s capital city has a ton of Remembrance Day events going on.
At 10 a.m., ceremonys begin at both West Edmonton Mall and City Hall.
While at 10:30, the Strathcona Legion, the Norwood Legion, the Kingsway Legion, and the Alberta Aviation Museum begin their ceremonies.
At 10:45, two more ceremonies begin at Violent King Henry Plaza, and at the Beverly Memorial Cenotaph
