Edmonton Police Kill Knife-Wielding Man; ASIRT Investigates

Edmonton Police shot a knife-wielding man to death around of 111 Street and 100 Avenue downtown Edmonton on Sunday night.

At around 8:33 p.m., police responded to reports of a man with a knife approaching people at around 111 Street and 99 Avenue.

When police arrived, a confrontation ensued with the man in question, and an officer shot him.

“Life-saving measures were attempted on scene; however, the male succumbed to his injuries. No EPS members were injured during this event. A knife was recovered on scene,” police said in a media release.

Director of EPS law enforcement was alerted to the incident, and from there, directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team to investigate.
