Two arrested in fraudulent vehicle purchase attempt

Strathcona County RCMP have arrested two people for trying to purchase a vehicle fraudulently.

In late November, police were made aware of individuals trying to purchase a vehicle with stolen identification. On December 1, police identified and arrested the two responsible for trying to purchase the vehicle.

Jennifer Dempsey, a 27-year-old Strathcona County resident, has been charged with:

  • Utter forged document
  • Obtain credit by fraud
  • Fraud over $5,000
  • Identity Fraud

While Erik Smith, a 36-year-old Edmonton resident, has been charged with:

  • Utter forged document
  • Obtain credit by fraud
  • Fraud over $5,000
  • Identity Fraud
  • Possess prohibited device
  • Fail to Comply with Release order (x3)
  • Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking

Both Dempsey and Smith will be appearing at Sherwood Park Provincial Court on December 20.
