Edmonton police treat recent hit-and-run as homicide

Edmonton police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run as a homicide.

On December 1, police responded to the collision, which happened in the area of 156 Street and 107 Avenue. It was reported to police that a black Lincoln SUV hit a male cyclist before fleeing the scene.

The cyclist who was hit ended up dying in hospital from his injuries. An autopsy performed earlier this week determined that the victim, 31-year-old Lawrence Bishop, died of blunt injury.

Following the collision, police arrested 38-year-old Johnathan Morgan, and charged him with:

  • Dangerous driving causing death
  • Failing to stop after an accident resulting in death Suspended driving

Investigators have also determined that Morgan and Bishop knew each other. The EPS Homicide Section is now leading the investigation.

Police are still looking for witnesses and footage of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567.
