Suspect arrested in May 2022 shootout

A man who police believe was involved in a shootout in southwest Edmonton has been arrested in Fort McMurray.

On May 15, 2022, police responded to reports of multiple shooters firing at each other across a residential street in front of 1721 Adamson Crescent at around 4:30 a.m.

Bullets hit two homes during the shootout, each two kilometres away. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
Security footage showed several people and vehicles fleeing the scene of the shooting.

During an extensive investigation, officers used ballistic analysis on seized firearms, which led investigators to connect a handgun seized in Fort McMurray in June 2022 to the May shootout.

Police identified Nagib Abdirahman as a suspect and arrested him on November 28, 2023. After executing a search warrant, police seized:

  • Approximately 500 grams of cocaine (approximate street value of $25,000)
  • Approximately 9 grams of fentanyl (approximate street value of $720)
  • More than $19,000 in Canadian currency
  • Other items consistent with drug trafficking

Abdirahman is now facing several charges, including:

  • Discharging a firearm with intent
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2)

Abdirahman has been placed in custody at Edmonton Remand Centre and will be appearing in court on December 12.
