The Rotary Club of Fort Saskatchewan presented a cheque to the Seniors and Youth Networking Community.
On Wednesday evening, the presentation was held at Ricky’s All Day Grill, where members of SYNC were presented with the $1,000 cheque.
“I have always appreciated the support that the Rotary Club has given to the SYNC program,” said Carole Bossert, creator of the program. “They have stood beside me both financially, and with great encouragement.”
Present at the event were the Skinner family and the Nelson family, who have both been involved in the SYNC program for many years. In the case of the Skinner brothers, all three of them were paired up with Grandma Marj, and they all still meet to this day, despite no longer being a part of the SYNC program.
“Connecting our youth and our seniors will continue to be very important as statistically, there is a lot of loneliness in our world,” added Bossert. “I am thankful that we are breaking down the barriers to ensure there are face-to-face interactions and that there are community building enthusiasts like the Rotary Club, who are ensuring these connections between our seniors and youth continue.”
The SYNC program has been operating in Fort Saskatchewan for around a decade, where local students are matched with seniors at local facilities such as Southfort Bend Garden or Dr. Turner Lodge.
