The University of Alberta is working on decontamination of the Humanities Centre, after a December fire in the building’s electrical vault contaminated the entire building.
In a news release, U of A says it is working on alternate accommodations to operate courses for staff and students attending the 237 classes scheduled to be held in the 52-year-old structure during the 2024 Winter semester.
The university said an air quality report and a restoration assessment found that the contamination, “poses an air quality health and safety risk,”
“To ensure the safety of all building occupants and of our broader campus community, which must take the highest priority, we are following post-fire best practices,” the news release reads.
U of A instructs students to check the Bear Tracks portal for updated room information.
