The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) has seen a record high number of roadside requests during the extreme cold warning.
According to the association, their requests had become so frequent that their dispatch system was no longer showing accurate wait times.
“Every available operator is working overtime in these bitterly cold temperatures to ensure Albertans are helped as quickly and safely as possible, and we thank everyone for their patience,” wrote AMA in a release.
Between January 9 and January 14, AMA received more than 32,000 calls for roadside assistance. On Friday alone, there were over 9,000 calls throughout the day.
The high volume of calls came alongside the first major snowfall of the year, which coincided with an extreme cold warning. Environment Canada announced that the extreme cold warning had ended on January 15.
AMA claimed that during the extreme cold, there were 12 times the normal volume of calls for roadside assistance.
The predicted arrival time will be given to customers once the service vehicle operator is en route.
