Strathcona County council is looking to find a way to reduce their projected taxes in their 2025 operating and capital budgets by five per cent.
County staff initially projected to be a 7.27 per cent tax increase, while council is trying to get it lowered to 2.27 per cent.
The motion was put forward by councillor Bill Tonita, who put forward that $14 million would have to be cut to lower the tax increase. Mayor Rod Frank agreed with the motion.
The motion passed 6-3, with councillors David Anderson, Lorne Harvey, and Katie Berghofer voting against the motion.
A report will be coming back to council in April which will outline the scope of the work, with progress updates every two months.
