Several parking bans have been declared in the area following an overnight winter storm that dropped between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow throughout Alberta’s Industrial Heartland.
In Sherwood Park, a snow route parking ban will be going into effect on Tuesday (Feb. 27) at 6 p.m. Only certain streets are affected, which you can see through an interactive map on the Strathcona County website.
Crews will be working 24/7 to clear the snow, with officers authorized to issue tickets and tow any vehicle violating the parking ban. Tickets that are issued usually cost about $250.
As for the City of Edmonton, it has declared a citywide parking ban that begins on Monday evening, with the ban beginning with Phase 1, which prioritizes major arterial roads, bus routes, and other areas.
Edmonton has a snow-clearing map which residents can view to keep up with the current clearing status of these roadways. They also have a notification tool which gives advance notice of when crews will be in the area.
This heavy snowfall comes as an arctic front sweeps the country, delivering extreme cold, strong winds, freezing rain, and heavy snow across many parts of Canada.
