Fountain Park Recreation Centre closing in summer for warranty repairs

St. Albert’s Fountain Park Recreation Centre will be closing in the summer for necessary warranty repairs.

This lifecycle work was planned to take place in two phases, one phase in 2022 and another in 2024. This upcoming closure is expected to begin on July 2 and run until late August.

“The City understands another closure is disheartening to facility users and appreciates their patience while this necessary work is completed,” the City of St. Albert wrote on their website. “Warranty work is standard in large-scale construction projects and protects the City’s investment in Fountain Park Recreation Centre for years to come.”

During this closure, warranty deficiencies will be addressed, including tile defects that will require fully draining the pool basins alongside other touch-ups. The timing of this closure is planned to reduce impacts on regular programming.

Summer drop-in classes and other aquatics programs will be moved to other facilities in St. Albert, with more information on the affected programs being released in the spring.

Phase 1 of this lifecycle work ran from May 2022 to July 2023 and began after an engineering assessment occurred in 2019, which evaluated the building’s structural integrity and cosmetic components.

The City of St. Albert has released a full document about the work on their website, while also releasing a series of videos showing off the stages of the project.
