EPS: Teen sexually assaulted at recreation centre

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have released photos of a suspect involved in a stranger sexual assault involving a teenage girl.

The assault happened on Tuesday when officers were called to Terwillegar Recreation Centre in relation to a sexual assault.

Police were told that the 13-year-old victim entered a change room stall where she was followed by a male suspect who sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as an Asian man with a slim build, black hair dyed blonde, and sporting a gray winter jacket, light coloured pants, and black boots.

According to police, the suspect was also dropped off by a silver mid-sized SUV.

“We are confident that someone out there knows who this suspect is,” said detective Kevin Chung with EPS. “A stranger attack like this, in a populated recreation centre, is incredibly concerning and we encourage anyone who knows more about this incident or the male suspect to contact police immediately.”

In an update on Thursday, police announced that the suspect had turned himself in. The suspect’s name has not been released, as formal charges have not been laid yet.
