Former Strathcona County director sentenced to house arrest

David Churchill, former Director of Transportation and Agriculture Services with Strathcona County, has been sentenced to a year of house arrest, according to a report made by Sherwood Park News.

The report states that back in January Churchill pled guilty to fraud over $5,000 after he charged $8,723.11 to the county to help fund his cattle business. Some of the items he purchased included a gate for a corral and a solar pump.

The most expensive item he purchased was the solar pump, which cost almost $3,000.

These purchases were all made between February of 2020 and June of 2022, using his company credit card or asking for reimbursement. A private investigator began looking into these purchases in April 2022.

Churchill was confronted about the fraud in a meeting that happened in June 6, 2022, which ended with Churchill being fired from his position.

Churchill was sentenced to 12 months of house arrest followed by eight months on curfew.
