Edmonton police alerted of encampment ‘cave’ in river valley

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) were recently told about an encampment ‘cave’ located in the Edmonton River Valley.

“Recently our Sheriff partners found a hole which was covered up by a piece of steel. Under that piece of steel they discovered a cave that had been dug into here,” said Serge Soucy with EPS.

According to police, the cave was about five feet deep and around 12 feet across and appeared to be partially collapsed. Sheriffs also discovered a person living inside of the cave, who was taken to the Government of Alberta’s Navigation and Support.

However, emergency crews dug through the collapsed cave to ensure that nobody was injured or buried underneath the dirt. Police confirmed that nobody else had been found inside the cave.

Despite this discovery, EPS have reported that they have not seen an increase of encampments in Edmonton’s River Valley.

EPS also released a video of the discovery which you can find on their website.
