According to NASA, a total solar eclipse will be travelling across the continent next month.
The eclipse will be coming on April 8 and will start in Mexico, travelling through the United States and eventually hitting Canada. Southern Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia are in the path of the eclipse.
Although here in Alberta we won’t see the eclipse in its entirety, we’ll still see a partial eclipse, with the eclipse beginning at 11:50 a.m. and ending at around 1:30 p.m.
The eclipse will be at its deepest point at around 12:40 p.m., with a small section of the sun being obscured by the moon.
Looking at the sun directly can cause damage to the eyes, so NASA suggests that people view the sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer. Regular sunglasses do not provide enough protection for viewing the sun, even with several pairs.
