Union workers reach deal with City of Edmonton, including $1,000 lump sum payment

More details have been shared on the tentative agreement that was reached between Civic Service Union 52 (CSU 52) members and the City of Edmonton.

The deal shows that union workers in both the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Public library will receieve a wage increase of 6.25 per cent, and a lump sum payment of $1,000.

However, the deal isn’t set and stone as union members are still voting to ratify the deal, which should be happening at some point next week.

This deal was made after a strike was announced by CSU 52 on Monday. The strike was set to begin on Thursday but was delayed after an e-mail was sent out by The City of Edmonton just 12 minutes before the strike was set to begin.

The strike was then set to begin on Friday but was completely cancelled after the union and the city came to their tentative agreement.

If the strike had gone through, many facilities across the City of Edmonton would have closed down, including but not limited to the Muttart Conservatory, the Edmonton Valley Zoo, and all 21 branches of the Edmonton Public Library.
