Fort Library celebrating Library Giving Day

It’s International Library Giving Day on Wednesday, and the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library is looking for donations.

Despite sharing a building with Fort Saskatchewan’s City Hall, the local library is actually a non-profit charity that runs primarily through donations and grants.

Around 80 per cent of the library’s annual operating budget comes from a grant provided by The City of Fort Saskatchewan. Other major donators include Nutrien and Dow.

The library is determined to provide the public with free access to information, but with the rising costs of e-books and other online sources, the library is looking for donations from the public.

This is the first year that the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library has celebrated International Library Giving Day.

Donations can be dropped off at the library, with donations of $20 or more being tax-deductible.
